40K tournament in 2020

18-12-2019

Hardly any models, no codexes ... just some dice, the 8th edition rulebook and one painted Space Marine. Perfect timing to sign up for a tournament! Well actually, yes. And here's why:

The tournament, or league as they call it, will run for almost a year, starting first Friday of January and ending somewhere mid December. You get points for playing games (1 per game), points for a tie (1 to be exact), points for winning (3 per battle you win), zero points for a loss. Also a one time bonus 5 points if you play with a fully painted and based army. It will be 1500pts of matched play for each battle during the league.

This means that I still have time to decide what army I will be choosing, buy the codex, collect the models, paint and base them to a good tabletop standard while still getting enough time to actually play enough games in the league to earn enough points so that I can at least end above the not painted armies from people who show up to play a game or two in the league and then lose interest. Basically the plan is "collect and paint up cool Mini's and not end up in last place" ....

So there you go: entering a tournament while just getting back into the hobby can indeed be a great idea. At the very least I get to build up a collection for a specific purpose thus ending up with an army I can enjoy and expand upon for years to come and be sure that I get to play at least a handful of great games against some veteran players with fantastic "eyecandy armies"!
